Oprah's Love Letters
to Her Fans

Called a love letter to her fans…Oprah leaves us with highlighting these wonderful lessons. All of these are from the final Oprah Winfrey Show…and I’ve taken these notes…her direct words…to have a reference and to be reminded of what I can be…and of the teacher who gave me the lessons.  Thank you Oprah.

Lesson 2

Finding your own platform…your own voice…
  • Each one of you has your own platform. Do not let the trappings here fool you. Mine is a stage and a studio. Yours is where ever you are with your own reach…however small, however large that reach is…maybe it’s 20 people, 30 people, 40 people, your family, your friends, your neighbors, your classmates, your classroom, your co-workers…where ever you are, that is your platform, your stage, your circle of influence…that is your talk show and that is where your power lies.
  • In every way and every day, you are showing people exactly who you are. You are letting your life speak for you…and when you do that, you will receive in direct proportion to how you give…
  • You can help somebody, you can listen, you can forgive, you can heal – you have the power to change somebody’s life. The power is the same. Everybody has a calling. Mine aligned with my profession, my job, but not everybody gets paid for it…but everybody is called. It may be your skill at listening…your talent for nurturing and mothering…Do not get it confused. Your calling – does not have to be something that makes you famous…
  • You carry whatever your suppose to be doing and don’t waste any more time. Start embracing the light that is calling you and use your life to serve the world.

Ten Commandments for Reducing Stress

Amanda Gore

1. Thou shalt not be perfect nor even try to be.

2. Thou shalt not try to be all things to all people and spread thyself too thin.

3. Thou shalt leave things undone that ought to be done.

4. Thou shalt not criticize thyself for decisions that were made without the benefit of hindsight.

5. Thou shalt learn to say ‘No’.

6. Thou shalt schedule time for thyself and thy supportive network.

7. Thou shalt switch off and do nothing regularly.

8. Thou shalt be boring, untidy, inelegant, and unattractive at times.

9. Thou shalt not even feel guilty.

10. Especially, thou shalt not be thine own worst enemy, but be thy best friend.

I wonder where that lady is now? She is probably about 50 years old. I wonder if she was ever able to live by the ‘Ten Commandments for Reducing Stress’?

I hope so, because she really did start something.

5 WAYS TO THINK LIKE A CHAMPION

I meet and learn from Champions every day. Not just in locker rooms but in classrooms, hospitals, homeless shelters, homes and office buildings. I've learned that to be a champion you must Think Like a Champion. Champions think differently than everyone else. They approach their life and work with a different mindset and belief system that separates them from the pack.

1.Champions Expect to Win- When they walk on the court, on the field, into a meeting or in a classroom they expect to win. In fact they are surprised when they don't win. They expect success and their positive beliefs often lead to positive actions and outcomes. They win in their mind first and then they win in the hearts and minds of their customers, students or fans.

2. Champions Celebrate the Small Wins - By celebrating the small wins champions gain the confidence to go after the big wins. Big wins and big success happen through the accumulation of many small victories. This doesn't mean champions become complacent. Rather, with the right kind of celebration and reinforcement, champions work harder, practice more and believe they can do greater things.

3. Champions Don't Make Excuses When They Don't Win - They don't focus on the faults of others. They focus on what they can do better. They see their mistakes and defeats as opportunities for growth. As a result they become stronger, wiser and better.

4. Champions Focus on What They Get To Do, Not What They Have To Do - They see their life and work as a gift not an obligation. They know that if they want to achieve a certain outcome they must commit to and appreciate the process. They may not love every minute of their journey but their attitude and will helps them develop their skill.

5. Champions Believe They Will Experience More Wins in the Future - Their faith is greater than their fear. Their positive energy is greater than the chorus of negativity. Their certainty is greater than all the doubt. Their passion and purpose are greater than their challenges. In spite of their situation champions believe their best days are ahead of them, not behind them.If you don’t think you have what it takes to be a champion, think again. Champions aren’t born. They are shaped and molded. And as iron sharpens iron you can develop your mindset and the mindset of your team with the right thinking, beliefs and expectations that lead to powerful actions.

NEVER GIVE UP

A good friend sent me this great short story the other day and I just wanted to share it with you...

One day a farmer's donkey fell down into a well that the farmer had accidentally left uncovered. The animal cried piteously for
hours as the farmer tried to figure out what to do.  Finally, he decided the animal was old, and the well needed to be covered up anyway, so it just
wasn't worth it to retrieve the donkey.

He invited all his neighbours to come over and help
him. They all grabbed a shovel and began to shovel dirt into the well. At first, the donkey realized what
was happening and cried horribly. Then, to everyone's amazement he quieted down.

A few shovel loads later, the farmer finally looked down the well. He was astonished at what he saw.  With each shovel of dirt that hit his back, the donkey was doing something amazing. He would shake it off and take a step up.

As the farmer's neighbours continued to shovel dirt on top of the animal, he would shake it off and take a step up.
Pretty soon, everyone was amazed as the donkey stepped up over the edge of the well and happily trotted off!

Moral of the story....Life is filled with challenges - some can knock you down and bring you to your knees but it's
not how many times you get knocked down that matters - it's how many times you shake them off and step back up.

Developing Greater Self-Compassion

The Kindness Handbook
by
Sharon Salzberg

To begin with, bring to mind a difficult life circumstance and observe the nature of different reactions to yourself as you picture that time in your life. How does anger feel in your body? How does humiliation feel? Do you notice other strands of emotion? How do they feel? Remind yourself that you are worthy of love, or you did the best you could, and notice how compassion feels. Notice how various reactions affect your attention. Do you get obsessed, or does your perspective open? Do you have a sense of finality, or do you remember that all things change?
Ask yourself if you can be moved by your own distress, instead of falling into either being dismissive of it or being overwhelmed. Can you find the desire to heal and ameliorate the suffering you have experienced? When recalling an aspect of your personality you dislike, notice how the perceived flaw is treated. Notice the emotional tone of the language you use to describe the problem. See what happens when, rather than attacking and berating yourself for being inadequate, you relax your tone, soften your body, and offer yourself warmth and unconditional acceptance. Notice what happens when you do this even if you have genuinely identified something as problematic and in need of change.
At the end of the session it is good to offer loving kindness to yourself, then to those who have helped you and finally to all beings, all of whom want to be happy—all of whom are vulnerable and deserving of compassion, just as we ourselves are.

STRESS

 by Jon Kabat-Zinn

The mind and body too can go through what feel like phase changes as conditions change.  The changing conditions can create pressures of one kind or another, or alleviate them.  Changing conditions can heat things up or cool things down emotionally, cognitively, somatically, spiritually.  We call these various changing conditions that require us to adapt one way or another "stressors," and we refer to our experience of those changes, especially if we do not respond adaptively to them as "stress."

BOWEN TECHNIQUE - KATHY LAW

Bowtech, the original Bowen Technique, is gentle form of body work in which very
subtle moves performed over the muscles and connective tissue send messages
deep into the body, retrieving memory of a preferred, relaxed, balanced way of
wellbeing.  Results can be remarkable, even from the first session; often only a
few sessions are needed to correct the presenting problem.  There are frequent
but very essential pauses throughout the session that allow the body time to
respond and begin the healing process.

The Bowen Technique does not use forceful manipulation.  The technique addresses
not on the musculo-skeletal framework, but also the facia, nerves and internal
organs.  The body's integrated response improves circulation and lymphatic
drainage and aids in the assimilation of nutrients and elimination of toxins.

The original Bowen Technique is extremely gentle and is considered appropriate
for anyone from pregnant women to newborn babies, the frail and elderly.
It can assist recovery from many conditions, from traumatic injury to chronic
illness, depending upon each individual's capacity to heal.  No adverse side
effects have been reported.

The technique should be considered for:  back pain, sciatica, digestive and bowel
problems including IBS, ear ache, ear infections, migraines, fibromyalgia, chronic
fatigue syndrome, knee, ankle, foot problems, menstrual and hormonal irregularities,
sports and accident injuries, neck/shoulder problems (incl. frozen shoulder),
groin pain, pelvic tilt, uneven leg length, respiratory problems and hay fever,
RSI, carpal tunnel syndrome and tennis elbow, etc. etc.

SENIORS BENEFIT FROM USING SHAKLEE PHYSIQUE
Dr. Richard Brouse, a holistic health care provider, highly recommends Shaklee Physique for seniors.  Since the nutritional needs of mature individuals is unique he tracked over 200 elderly patients between 65 and 84 years old and noticed some amazing results……
Ø  72% who used Physique daily had an increase in energy and more muscle mass after six months.
Ø  Sugar regulation of those who had been hypoglycemic or hyperglycemic returned to normal in 56% of the cases within 3 months after starting daily use of Physique
Ø  60% of all elderly patients following the recommended exercises had less muscle and joint symptoms within 3 months after daily use of Physique
These findings clearly indicate that Shaklee Physique is a very useful choice in the nutritional program of the elderly population who are physically active and taking positive steps to maintain their health.
